Treasure Pouch By Robin Densmore Fuson
At night I listen to God’s word the Bible. The narration
is calming to me and when I wake up, which happens frequently, it’s there to
lull me back to dreamland. On this particular night, I heard two words that
brought me to attention. I zeroed in to the part where Abigail intercepts David
from going to confront her husband, Nabal. You can find the whole drama in 1
Samuel 25:2-42.
Those two profound words that arrested my attention are,
TREASURE POUCH. Abigail told David that the Lord put David’s life safely tucked
into His treasure pouch. WOW. Let me read the verse.
“Even when you are chased by those who seek to kill
you, your life is safe in the care of the Lord your God, secure in
his treasure pouch! But the lives of your enemies will disappear like stones
shot from a sling! NLT
See the contrast? God’ cherishes His children, those who have a
personal relationship with His Son, Jesus but casts His enemies away. Other
versions use variants of words: NKJV and NASB say, Bound in Bundles, and
enemies sling out. HCSB says, Tucked safely and fling from a sling. They all
make a clear contrast. Pulled in close and protected verses flung, cast away.
As a side note, I like the reference to the sling
shot. David was very familiar with a sling shot a weapon of choice that killed Goliath.
God scoops up those that love Him and tucks them into
His pouch where He stores treasure.
We are His treasure.
His prized possession.
He bought us with the price of the blood of His Son.
He cares for us. Loves us. Treasures us.
In I John 3:1 and many other passages, we are called
children of God. We are precious in His sight as the song, Jesus Loves Me says.
In 2 Corinthians 2:15 we are referred to as an adored aroma or fragrance to God. For more on that, see my video devotional on Who You are in Christ:
Who You Are in Christ Fruit Bearer, Salt, Fragrance
In Revelation 5 we see an amazing view of the throne room where God stores the prayers of the saints and are pictured as in a bowl of incense that wafts to God. What an image. Can you picture that?
You are God’s delight. He cares more than you can
comprehend. He wants to spend eternity with you and me, us.
In the light of current events. Sometimes our heavenly
Father calls us home sooner than our loved ones want. Our hearts break as we
experience earthly loss when God ushers in His treasured child into His
presence. Boy, what a wonderful reception that is. God saying, “Well done thou
good and faithful servant.”
In recent days we’ve lost some amazing men and women
of God. Soldiers of the Cross. Front line disciples. I weep for them. I cry out
my prayers for their loved ones and organizations they left behind. I mourn the
hole that is left and pray for someone to step up and fill the gap.
Our hearts are heavy with the loss. We cry. And we
should. That’s part of our grieving. We should also celebrate their lives and
the amazing work they did for the Kingdom of Heaven. We need to lift their families
up to the throne of Heaven and add our prayers for them into God’s bowl of
incense. He hears and breathes in our prayers to send comfort to whom the
request is made.
May you be blessed as you realize you are God’s
treasure and a sweet fragrance. You are loved with an everlasting sacrificial
Love.
