Names of God: Father
There are dozens of verses showing God as Father. Let's look at a few of them.
You may
appreciate thinking of God as Father and find comfort in that thought. Some of
you may struggle to think of God as a loving Father. We tend to think of Father
the way we view our earthly father.
We need to
train ourselves to view God the Father as who He is. Father is loving. Father
is gracious. Father is forgiving. Father is abundant. Father showers grace on
His children. Father is so much more than we deserve. Creator Father. Majestic
Father. More than I can list here.
Peace be
with you dear brothers and sisters, may God the Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ give you love and faithfulness (Ephesians 6:23 nlt).
Let’s look at a fraction of verses showing Father.
2 Corinthians 1:3 nlt says, “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.”
Psalm103:13
nlt: The Lord is like a father to His
children, tender and compassionate to those who fear Him.
Don’t you
love the picture these two verses make? When we are in distress, we can climb
into the Father’s lap and rest our head on His mighty shoulder to receive
comfort to our soul.
Ephesians.
1:17 tells us that God is the Father of Jesus and gives us spiritual wisdom and
insight.
That verse
shows a picture of God the Father, who gently teaches us.
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ (Ephesians 1:3 nlt).
Father
gives us spiritual blessings.
But for
us, there is one God, the Father, by whom all things were created, and for whom
we live. And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were
created, and through whom we live (1Corinthians 8:6 nlt).
Creator. Father created you so He could enjoy
you. He is your sustenance.
Father loves you so much that from the beginning, He chose to send His only Son to die for you.
That’s amazing love. Nothing can separate us from the Father’s love.
Another
name for Father is Abba or Papa, Daddy. That’s intimate—a close relationship.
Romans
8:15b says, You received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his children. Now
we call him “Abba, Father.”
Adopted.
We are adopted. Chosen. Picked out. Father knew me with all my faults (there
are many) and he still chose me, adopted me.
Are you
comforted by knowing you have a loving Father? First, are you one of His
children? Are you adopted? Have you trusted in His Son as payment for your sin?
Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus so you can call Father, Abba, or
Daddy?
