Names of God: Judge

What do you think of when you think of a Judge? Are you frightened? Do you feel protected? Someone to bring justice regarding laws of the land?

In this talk, when I quote scripture, I’ll be quoting from the NLT.

In Luke 18:1-8 we have a story from Jesus’ lips about a widow and a judge who neither feared God nor cared about people. There was a widow who needed the judge to grant her a justice against an enemy. The judge ignored her. She petitioned the judge again and again until she wore him out. So, he did her bidding and remarked, “I don’t fear God or care about people but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice because she is wearing me out with her requests.”

Jesus then said, “Learn a lesson from this unjust judge. Even he rendered a just decision in the end. Don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night. He will grant justice to them quickly.”

This story helps us realize that Judge God wants us to come to Him in prayer and he will answer our requests. The Lord loves us to come to him repeatedly. He will answer. Yes, No, Wait.

Let’s look at other verses regarding God as Judge.

James 4:12: God alone, who gave the law, is the judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy.

For the Lord is our Judge, our lawgiver, and our king. He will care for us and save us. Isaiah 33:22

Isaiah 11:4 says, with righteousness He will judge.

So, who in the Godhead is Judge? The Father? Son? Holy Spirit?

Jesus Christ the Son as Judge: Judge Jesus Christ

John 5:22 says, “In addition, the Father judges no one, instead he has given the Son absolute authority to judge.”

So, we see here that the Son Jesus and He is Judge.

John 8:39: “Jesus told them, I entered this world to render judgement—to give sight to the blind and to show those who think they see that they are blind.”

Spiritual eyes.

In John 3:30, Jesus proclaims, His Judgement is just.

Wouldn’t it be cool if all Judges were completely just? Our world would be vastly different. But alas, we live in a corrupt world.

Because Jesus is 100 % human and100% God, He makes the perfect judge. His justice is fair and perfectly just. We don’t have to worry.

Well, do we?

Jesus will judge the righteous and the unrighteous. Who are the righteous? What does Righteous mean? Webster’s dictionary says righteous means: One who is holy in heart or a saint.

Jesus referred to his followers as His Sheep.

Who are His Sheep? If you’ve trusted Jesus as your Savior and have a personal relationship with Him, (that means to put your faith in Him to have paid for your sin, accept Him in your life, talk with Him, trust Him with your life—after all He died for you) then you are righteous and don’t need to fear. All sin was paid for on the Cross. All your sin—past, present, and future was nailed to the cross and covered by Jesus’ blood of righteousness.

This means you are justified. Here is a cool way to help you remember what Justified means: Just as if I’d never sinned. You get a forever clean slate.

But if you don’t have a relationship with Jesus, you need to worry. Your judgement will be swift and just see Revelation 19:11 and Matthew 25:30-46.

Earlier, I said spiritual eyes referring to John 8:39 We need spiritual eyes to see our sin for what it is. Sin is anything against the holy creator God. And we need someone to wash that sin away. Only a sinless perfect sacrifice did that. Jesus washed the sin away He was that sacrifice.

God the Father gave Jesus the right to be Judge because He paid the penalty for sin.

We will all stand before Judge Jesus and he will declare if we have accepted Him and are justified and righteous.

His sheep the righteous, God places His seal on them for eternal life in heaven. How do you stand?
