Review of Crusaders Quest by Jake Tyson

Crusaders Quest by Jake Tyson

In a world where the poor are beaten down and crime gets worse every day, Wyatt Jonson knows someone needs to step into the place vacated by the local authorities. After killing a gang member for self-preservation, Wyatt speaks with a local pastor who agrees that something needs to be done to protect the hard-working, innocent people of the Brooks.
With training and hesitant encouragement from his family, Wyatt becomes the Crusader—a masked guardian of the city attempting to stop crime in its tracks. With a silver cross as his emblem, he seeks to bring hope back to the people and keep them safe. But things don’t always go as planned for Wyatt or the Crusader.

I wrote this review for Clean Fiction Magazine Spring 2026

First impression: A real-life superhero wannabe steps in to save a people from harm or death. And that is only the beginning, as this is a prequel to more adventures by Wyatt.

Action: Every page of this prequel is full of action, from interior soul-searching to fighting in hand-to-hand combat. From training in the ring to actual moves in battle, this story is not slow, but the pace is sprinkled with inner thoughts.

Adventure: The adventure starts on the dark trash-blown streets of a city gone crazy with crime and neglect from the official police department. There is too much crime for authorities to handle, and a lone man on a mission to get groceries detects a scuffle in the alley and in steps our hero, Wyatt. Not one to ignore a cry for help, thus begins his transformation.

Romance: The only romance is the romantic thoughts of becoming the answer to a city’s need of a person to put other’s need above their own. He has a purpose that drives him out into the night.

Religion: Family and faith play a huge role in Wyatt’s life. Prayer and counsel from a man of the cloth help form Wyatt’s perspective of what he began to realize is a calling. Can a simple prayer of confession lead to an almost divine intervention of a sending forth and transformation?

Art: A creative costume is created out of the necessity for his identity to remain secret. His very life depends on this achievement. A silver cross emblem will bring hope, and his name, Crusader, might cause others to focus on how they can also do right and godliness.

Warning: At the start of the story, there is a murder at the hands of the main character, Wyatt. There is street fighting, bleeding, and injuries. Evil against good.

Final Thoughts: I always wondered how one became a superhero. Now, I know. Wyatt underscores what we all should be—willing to step in to protect others. Wyatt used his training and size. He used his cunning and heart to help others and tries to stamp out evil where it breeds, in the streets at night. It is a story where you root for the good guy who has done drastic things to rid his city of the wicked evil lurking in the shadows.

Buy book: Crusaders Quest

For the magazine, I gave it a G rating which means Gasp. Everywhere else 4 stars.
