2023 FCWC SonShine Award
I'm excited to announce that I received a third-place award for the first 1500 words of my short story, The Color Ruby, a biblical story of Rahab and the two spies.
I thank the Lord for His gift of storytelling and guiding me through writing. I thank my amazing husband, Jimmy, for his encouragement and making sure I have the needed help to make these stories come alive on paper. I thank organizations like this that host contest for writers.
FCWC (Florida Christian Writers
Conference), which is owned and run by Word Weavers International, is a comfortable place to learn and grow as a writer. The
conference is at Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center on the shores of a
beautiful lake where the sunrises knock your socks off.
We
had the greatest number of attendees to date. I met numerous authors, agents,
publishers, and mentors and reacquainted with others. I was refreshed and challenged,
sharpened, and encouraged. Each class I attended was well worth the hype.
If you are a writer or a wannabe writer, I highly encourage you to attend FCWC, which is always the third week in October. You can come for the whole event or partial. Get a daily pass or stay there in the “hotel” accommodations. Be prepared for hot and cold. The weather that time of year in Central Florida can be a yoyo of sorts, with cool mornings and evenings and hot days. The meeting rooms blast cold air because of the large number of hot-blooded, excited people whose imaginations ignite.
Perhaps
the Lord will grant me the opportunity to attend next year and you will be
there too.
