Cloudy Day by Robin Densmore Fuson
What
do you think of when you look at clouds? Are you expecting Him?
Back in the 1980’s my brother-in-law, Paul, drove a sixteen-passenger
van and picked up a few folks from the Shepherd’s Home in the Denver area, and
brought them to our church. There, he or others taught them from the Bible.
These precious adults had intellectual and
developmental disabilities and he showered them with love and dignity. Every
Sunday, unless the weather caused the roads to be too treacherous, he drove to
the facility and brought them on their outing to church. The smiling faced
people lumbered out and shuffled in to find ‘their’ classroom.
I’ll never forget, Paul told a story he heard that the
residents from there or another group home eagerly looked outside each morning
to see if it was a cloudy day. Their excitement rose when the fluffy white
puffs dotted the sky. “Jesus comes!”
They knew what the Bible said about the coming of
Christ. Look he comes with the clouds of
heaven. And everyone will see him—even those who pierced him. And all the
nations of the world will mourn for him. Yes! Amen! (Revelation 1:7) Jesus said, I Am. And you will see the Son
of Man seated in the place of power at God’s right hand and coming on the
clouds of heaven. (Mark 14:62)
Jesus Christ is coming again for His own. We need to
be ready, by first accepting Him as our Savior. He came to earth the first time
to die as the perfect sacrifice and payment for our sin. Second, we need to
live life with an expectant attitude that He will come soon.
We don’t sell everything and live on a mountaintop.
Instead, we live obedient lives doing what He wants us to do and also waiting
for His coming.
If we have trusted Christ’s death as our payment, we
are now a child of God and therefore an heir of heaven. In God’s timetable, we
are actually seated in heaven even though in our timeline we are living on
earth. But we are citizens of heaven,
where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return
as our Savior. (Philippians 3:20) Now
you have every spiritual gift you need as you eagerly await for the return of
our Lord Jesus Christ. (1Corinthians 1:7)
So the next time you see the sky with a few clouds or
perhaps covered in clouds, get excited! Christ’s return is when the Father
wants it. It could be today, tomorrow, next week, next month, soon—in the
Father’s time.
